Location Research

Me and my group analysed our potential locations for our filming giving advantages and disadvantages for each location. This was done in the video below.

Our top locations:

Dockside, Chatham: A lot of our filming will take place in this location. Because it is a modernised area which will produce plenty of great shots.

Target audience research - Questionnaire

I created a questionnaire which as a group we handed it out to 30 people in total we asked 10 questions which would help us understand our target audience. The questions are below. Audience is a very important aspect of media because everything is done with the audience in mind.

To find our target audience we had to conduct a questionnaire in which we asked the public questions such as their favourite artist, preferred music genre, favourite clothes brand etc. From all we learn we will try and integrate the findings into our music video so we match the criteria of our target audience.

From the analysis of the questionnaire, we found that the preferred genre was RnB and Drake was the most popular artist and to our delight we have picked a Drake song. However we researched more and found that those who chose Drake as their favourite artist liked the genre hip-hop and rap.

A2 Media student video analysis

Music video 1: Stuck by Canopy Climbers

I feel that this video was very successful and it achieved a high grade. They focused in depth for all of the editing techniques: Editing, miss-en-scene and camerawork. The lighting in the video was done to indicate the mood of the scene. The cuts were timed perfectly which meant that every seen wasn't too long or too short. Every cut was also a different location this meant that this group used a range of locations which allowed them to achieve a high grade. For the concept they mixed performance  and narrative which was very
effective.

The camera shot of the sky and the clouds at different times was very effective in the video. This is a technique I will try to recreate in my music video as it sets a tone in the music video. The establishing shot of the scene will also allow us to access higher marks. The camera is stable and doesn't move at all this gives the video a professional feel. For this to be achieved in my music video we will have to use camera stands or try to stabilise the video on iMovie editing software.

In my opinion this music video would achieve one of the top grades the lip syncing in the video is also done very well and as in sync. For our music video we would like to include a lot of the concepts which was used in this music video. The genre was portrayed perfectly and a number of brilliant locations were used.

Music video 2: Labrinth - Express yourself

Labrinth 'Express Yourself' falls in the pop music genre this meant that the video would have to follow the concept of bright colours and lots of light. The music video started with a camera shot where the camera was shaky which was a downfall however the video had good cuts in different locations and continuous shots which worked perfectly.

This shot is bad because it crops out the actors face so we miss the actors facial expression. To avoid this the camera man has to be aware of any movement and avoid being lazy and leaving the camera in one place because the actor can move unexpectedly.

This music video achieved this as they used plenty of different colours they even included a cut in the music video where the actor was trying on variety of shirts with different colour. This music video also included a range of editing techniques which suited the music video concept (Such as the silhouette on the right).

Overall, the camera stability could be vastly improved however the concept they used throughout the music video worked brilliantly and the use of editing software was very effectively. My group will learn from this video and when filming we will make sure our camera is stable is all of the shots so it gives it a professional feel. The use of different locations also worked and gave the music video a good feel to it. On the other hand the lip syncing was not in sync which was a bit clear to see me and my group will continue to do lip syncing practise so that we can avoid this.
